From the Management Console's Maps tab, admins may notice two dot colors associated with users: blue and purple. The color of the dot indicates the currency of the user's location data.
Blue means the user's location data is current; the location shown on the map is accurate. | Purple means the user's location data is outdated. While the user may still be at that location, Zello hasn't received updated location data recently. |
A blue dot will turn purple if Zello hasn't received updated location data from the user's device in a timeframe that exceeds 1.5 times the configured location report interval. For example, if your network's location tracking interval is 10 seconds, the dot will turn purple if the user's location was last reported longer than 15 seconds ago.
Reasons Zello may not be receiving location data include:
- The user is in standby mode.
- Zello is not currently running on the user's device.
- The user may be in a location with limited GPS signal.
Please note: There are several criteria that must be met for a user's location to be live-tracked. These include:
-The network's admin must enable location tracking.
-The end-user must grant Zello access to location services from their device's settings.
Hiding Old Locations
To cut down on unnecessary noise, consider hiding locations that are outdated by more than 20 minutes. This ensures the map only displays relevant, up-to-date information.
Old locations can be hidden directly from the map; find the Hide old locations option from the map's left-hand menu and toggle it on to enable.
Configuring the Location Report Interval
The location report interval can be configured from the Management Console's Settings tab; go to Settings > Common > Location tracking and find the Location report interval option. Select your desired time frame from the dropdown menu, then click Save and Apply.
Note that the default interval is 10s; intervals range from 5 seconds to 2 minutes.
