Users operating on iOS 16+ can send Zello Work messages without opening the app or unlocking their device. If this feature is enabled, a blue pill-shaped icon appears in the top-left corner of your device's screen when it's locked and/or running Zello in the background. Tapping the blue pill allows you to either quickly send a Zello message or open the app.
To use this feature, ensure the following:
- Your Apple device is operating on iOS 16 or higher.
- Your Zello app is operating on version 5.20.1 or higher. Please note that if you're using an older version of Zello, enabling this feature may cause unexpected behaviors.
Enable Zello on the Lock Screen and HUD
This feature can be enabled two ways: either by the network admin through the management console, or by an end-user through their in-app settings. Please click the tab that applies to your use case for enablement instructions.
- The instructions below provide guidance for enabling this feature for all network users. If you'd like to enable it for a specific subset of users, we recommend utilizing Zello's user template feature.
1. Sign in to your management console at [yournetworkname].zellowork.com. Then select Settings from the taskbar.
2. Search for "PTT Framework. Toggle the setting on, as indicated by the green pill.
3. Click Save and Apply.
Please note that changing this setting from the management console will override the in-app settings available for the end-user. If you enable the PTT framework from the console, end users will not be able to disable it from their device (and vice versa):
- This feature requires Zello version 5.20.1+. For assistance finding the version of Zello currently installed on your device, see this article.
1. Tap your user icon—located in the top-left corner of the app—to open Zello's menu.
2. Toggle on the Enable Zello on lock screen and HUD setting.
How it Works
When enabled—either network-wide by an admin or by an individual user from their device settings—a blue pill will appear in the top-left corner of the device's screen. Tapping this blue pill will prompt the HUD (heads-up display), which includes a Talk and a Leave button.
From here, you can tap either Talk, Leave, or the user icon.
- Tap and hold Talk to speak directly to the displayed contact/channel.
- Tap the user icon to open the Zello app.
- Tap Leave to completely exit the Zello application. Please note that messages will no longer be delivered if you hit Leave—do not press this button unless you'd like to entirely stop communication on Zello.
Receiving a Message
When you're receiving a Zello message from someone, a notification will appear at the top of your screen displaying the name and profile picture of the channel/contact who is speaking. |
