User Templates

Templates assign custom settings and channels for subsets of users. They are assigned by an admin from the management console and will override any other default settings that have been globally established.

Why Use User Templates?

While the management console allows admins to assign settings based on device platform (iOS, Android, Dispatch Hub, etc.), user templates go a step further and allow settings and channels to be assigned to a particular subset of users, regardless of device type or platform.

This flexible approach can address many use cases. For example, it may prove beneficial in a large retail environment where multiple stores and roles are managed under one network. It may also come in handy if your network uses a variety of devices that operate on the same system, but that are nonetheless different models with varying settings requirements.

Overall, assigning user templates helps streamline the network management process. Please note that only primary and secondary admins can administer user templates. Additionally, templates cannot be applied to a primary admin; they can, however, be used to grant a group of users access to the management console.

Creating a User Template

  1. Sign in to the management console at [yournetworkname].zellowork.com.

Adding User Settings

When settings are applied through a user template, all users assigned to the template will inherit those configurations. The following can be administered through a template:

There are many reasons why certain users would need settings that differ from the network’s default. For example, let’s say your network includes two subsets of Android users that have different types of phones. One of those Android phones may have a softer playback volume, consequently requiring a louder playback amplification setting. With a user template, you could assign that subset of users a higher playback amplification while keeping the rest of the network’s settings unchanged.

Alternatively, let’s say you operate a transportation business, and want to track your drivers’ locations, but not other employees’. Location tracking could be administered for that subset of users if desired.

Settings are configured through the user template’s details page:

Adding Channels

When a user template includes channels, all assigned users will inherit those channels and their assigned role. The user can still be added to additional channels outside of the template; furthermore, multiple channel assignments can be associated with one template, and multiple templates may apply to one channel.

To assign channels to the user template:

  1. Click the + icon, located at the top-right corner of the Channels section.

  2. Select the channels you’d like to add to the template. Then click Next.

  3. Assign any applicable roles, then click Done.

Channel Roles

Roles available for the template are those which have been configured at the channel level; they will remain managed via a channel’s details page, and can be assigned but not configured via the user template.

A template may include many channels, each of which could have its own role. For example, Ashley is assigned to a user template that includes 2 channels: 15 - Houston Team and Austin Team. She can perform a different role in each channel:

  • Disconnect from 15 - Houston Team
  • Send channel alerts to Austin Team

Please note: When a user is assigned to a channel via a template, a lock icon will appear next to their name in the channel's users list. Users assigned to a channel through a template cannot be removed from that channel's details page; either the user or the channel must be removed from the template.

Adding Users

Users added to the new template will inherit all settings and channels you’ve administered. Please note that users must be created before they can be added to the template. Learn more about adding users to your network.
