Standby status essentially means a user is offline and won't receive messages in real-time. The following conditions push a user to standby status:
- A device has lost internet connection
- A user's phone has been turned off
- Zello has been terminated (i.e. Zello is not running in the background)
- A user changes their status to "Offline"
Please note that standby status isn't an option that's selected by the end-user; if you set your status to "offline," you status will be communicated to others as Standby. Otherwise, it's automatically assigned when any of the above conditions are met.
When the above conditions are reversed (i.e. you regain internet connection or re-open Zello), your status will automatically revert back to Available or Busy. New users who've been added by an admin from the console but haven't signed in yet may also appear in Standby status until they log in for the first time.
Standby Status and Direct (1:1) Messages
Any 1:1 direct messages sent to a user while they're in standby status will be queued in their History, ensuring they're easily accessible upon return. Messages will be automatically played in the order they were received.
If the user has enabled push notifications on their device AND retains internet connection while in Standby status—meaning they've either closed out of Zello or set their status to offline—they'll receive a notification of your message.
How Standby affects messages from channels
Unlike 1:1 direct messages, messages sent to a channel while a user is in Standby status won't be queued for playback upon reconnection. Channel Alerts, however, will be sent as push notifications to users in Standby status if the originator of the Channel Alert has selected to alert all channel members, whether connected or not.
