Channels facilitate group communications between network users. They can be created one of two ways:
- By the primary admin—i.e. the admin who initially created your team’s Zello Work network—in the Zello app.
- By an admin (primary, select secondaries, and select sub-admins) through the Management Console.
This article covers in-app channel creation, which allows primary admins to flexibly manage their network's channels on-the-fly. For assistance creating channels through the Management Console, see this article.
Functionality
Channels created in-app will automatically be assigned the type Dynamic—meaning users can connect and disconnect as they please. Channel types cannot be changed from the app; this action can only be taken from the Management Console.
Please note in-app channel creation isn’t available for secondary admins or sub-admins. Additionally, primary admins can add (but not delete) users to channels they're active members of through the app, and they'll be automatically added to any channel they create using this method.
Channel management is otherwise relatively limited in-app. Use the Management Console to carry out more granular actions like administer roles, advanced settings, delete users, assign talk priority, and more.
Enablement
The ability to create channels in-app must first be enabled from the Management Console. To do so:
- Sign in to your Management Console (yournetowrkname.zellowork.com)
- Open the Settings tab. Under Common > General, find the Enable creating and managing channels in the app setting. Toggle it ON.
- Click Save and Apply.

Please note: Only a network’s primary admin (the individual with the username “admin”) can create a new channel in-app.
- Open the Channels tab and tap the + icon.

4. Channels may take about a minute to provision. Tap OK. The newly-created channel will appear in your list when provisioning is complete.

Adding Users to a Channel
Primary admins can add users to an existing channel from the app by following the steps below.
- From the Channels tab, select the appropriate channel.
- Open the channel's menu and tap Add users.

- Select the users you'd like to add then click Done (iOS) / Next (Android). Note that users may take up to 1 minute to fully provision.
