Zello’s pinned messages are persistent, highlighted communications displayed in a container at the top of a channel’s History screen. Well-suited for announcements and critical information that needs to span shifts, these messages—voice, text, image, or (if enabled) location—are prominently featured until dismissed, increasing the accessibility and visibility of important communications. Admins can enable pinned messages from the Management Console according to these instructions. Please note the following about pinned messages:
|
Functionality
When a message is pinned, it's pinned for all channel members. Up to 3 messages can be pinned per channel, and all members of a channel can both pin and unpin messages—even if they weren't the original sender.
To read or listen to messages that are currently pinned, tap the pin banner located at the top of a channel’s History screen. If multiple messages are pinned, you'll see vertical bars—the number of which corresponds to the number of currently-pinned messages—to left of the pin icon.
Tap the container to cycle through pinned messages; note that as you do, your screen will auto-navigate to the individual message's place in the channel's history.
Pin/Unpin a Message
Messages can be pinned after they’ve been sent. Any user—regardless if they were the original sender or not—can pin or unpin a message.
To pin a message:
- Send the intended message (voice, text, image, location) to your channel.
- Long-press the message.
- Tap Pin message > Pin.
Messages will remain pinned until they’re manually unpinned.
To unpin a message:
- Long-press the message you’d like to unpin.
- Tap Remove Pin > Remove.
Pinning Parameters
Up to 3 messages can be pinned per channel at once; if a user attempts to pin a fourth message while 3 are already pinned, they’ll be prompted to either cancel their action or replace the oldest pin (see right).
Messages will remain pinned until a user unpins them, as described here. Any user can pin or unpin a message; this feature cannot be selectively applied. Additionally, please note that this feature is not compatible with Dispatch Hub. Users operating on DH won't see pinned messages or have the ability to assign a pin. |

Admins: Enable Pinned Messages
Pinned messages are enabled from the Settings page in the Management Console. When enabled, any user in a channel can pin or unpin a message. Pinned messages cannot be turned on for selective channels or users—once the feature is toggled on, it'll be available for all channels in your network.
To enable, disable, or configure pinned messages:
- Sign in to the management console at [yournetworkname].zellowork.com
- Open the Settings page. Find the “Pinned messaging on Android and iOS” (Common > General) setting and toggle it ON.
- Click Save and Apply.
